In “First Family” ex-Secret Service agents Sean King and Michelle Maxwell return for another rousing adventure. In my quest to catch up on my favorite authors, David Baldacci ranks high on the priority list. The results of this study are firstly, the novella provides the external conflicts between the characters by revealing the elements of the novella. The data analysis procedure will be started by revealing the elements of the novella, and it will be followed by reviewing the American history to reveal the ideology of Kino during the conflicts.
The data are chiefly collected from original text of the Viking Edition of the Pearl by John Steinbeck. Moreover, this study uses Mimetic Approach that only focuses on the relation between the social conditions based on the reality.
It means that the writer tries to describe the External conflicts in the form of subtitle, phrase, and paragraph. The method that is used in this study is Descriptive Qualitative Research. In order to have significant information of the conflict in the story and factors making it up, the writer formulated two statements of research problems: what are the external conflicts of Kino as the main character in The Pearl? And what ideology do the conflicts symbolize? The objective of this study is to explore the external conflicts of Kino as the main character in John Steinbeck’s The Pearl and to identify the symbols that are represented in the conflicts in the novel. Conflict usually comes after something bad happens to someone, but in The Pearl, the conflicts rises continually after the main character finds a great pearl that totally changes his life.
